[ InGaAs & Si : 2600 - 190 nm, kHz - GHz ]
Amplified Photodetectors in our catalog are ideal for small-signal CW, heterodyne (modulated), or pulsed photodetection. The modules presented here feature a wide selection of ultra-low noise high-speed photodiodes with photosensitive areas in the range of sub-to-a-few mm, exhibit broad spectral response and high responsivity, and are equiped with coated optical windows for free space or for fiber coupled applications. These photodiodes are coupled to amplifiers for low noise and linear response over the operating bandwidth. The SMA-connectorized output impedance is 50-Ω (low) and DC-coupled, with some models featuring an AC-coupled option. The signal outputs are optimized for low capacitance (~ 1pF) low impedance (50-Ω) instrumentation and test equipment but also function effectively at high impedance. The high-speed units require low capacitance semi-rigid cable connections of < 15 cm for full bandwidth performance. SMA-BNC adapters are optional. The photodiode bias voltage is regulated & fixed, and an adjustable option is available over the working range of the photodiode. The SWIR models have fixed bias at < 1V. All detectors are packaged in small plastic cases for convenient operation. An M8x3 power entry cable is provided, and a power switch with LED “ON” indication are optional. The recommended power supply is the PS-15D, which supplies ±15 VDC regulated output. Metric and/or SAE mounting holes are provided with recommended-optional steel mounting screws. We have broad capabilities, so please contact us for customized applications with specific gain-bandwidth and noise requirements, as well as geometrical constraints.

Amplified Photodetectors with
Independent AC and DC (CW) Signal Outputs
[ InGaAs & Si : 2600 - 190 nm, MHz ]
Optical systems frequently require simultaneous measurements of the CW component of a test beam apart from its superimposed high-speed content. To facilitate this requirement we offer modules in which the CW signal and the AC components are amplified independently. These systems are ideal for heterodyne (modulated), or pulsed photodetection, since the AC high-frequency signal is processed independently from the "slow" low-bandwidth power base. All of the amplified photodetectors above can be configured with this capability, regardless of the bandwidth. We present here only the high-frequency models in this category, particularly suited for laboratory and research applications. The modules feature a wide selection of ultra-low noise high-speed photodiodes in a variety of photosensitive areas, broad spectral response, and high responsivity with coated optical windows for free space and fiber coupling. The amplifiers operate with low noise and linear response over the operating bandwidth. The output impedance is 50-Ω and all models feature AC and DC output-signal coupling at separate SMA output connectors. These units are optimized for low capacitance (~ 1pF) low impedance (50-Ω instrumentation and test equipment. The high speed units require low capacitance semi-rigid cable connections of < 15 cm for full bandwidth performance. SMA-BNC adapters are optional. The bias voltage is fixed / regulated-adjustable (optional) over the working range of the photodiode. The SWIR models have fixed bias at <1V. They are packaged in small plastic modules for convenient operation. An M8x3 power entry cable is provided, and a power switch with LED “ON” indication are optional. Metric and/or SAE mounting holes are provided with recommended-optional steel mounting screws. We have broad capabilities, so please contact us for customized applications with specific gain-bandwidth and noise requirements, as well as geometrical constraints.

Adjustable Gain-Bandwidth [ 3X ]
Amplified Photodetectors
[ InGaAs & Si : 2600 - 190 nm, kHz - GHz ]
Optical signal measurements in instrumentation require photodetection within a wide dynamic range. Wide power coverage is possible if the system gain is extended well beyond a single level, and equally critical is to maintain low NEP within the gain-bandwidth span. The photodetection systems presented below feature a wide selection of ultra-low noise high-speed photodiodes in small and large photosensitive areas, covering broad spectral response, operating at high responsivity, and provided with coated optical windows for free-space and fiber coupling. The multi-gain amplifiers are implemented for low noise and linear response over the gain range and the operating bandwidth. The output impedance is 50-Ω at the SMA output connector, and these detectors are optimized for low capacitance (~ 1pF) low impedance (50-Ω) instrumentation and test equipment but will also function efficiently at high impedance. The high-speed units require low capacitance semi-rigid cable connections of < 15 cm for full bandwidth performance. The bias voltage is fixed / regulated-adjustable (optional) over the working range of the photodiode. The SWIR models have fixed bias at < 1V. They are packaged in small plastic modules for convenient operation. An M8x3 power entry cable is provided, and a power switch with LED “ON” indication are optional. Metric and/or SAE mounting holes are provided with recommended-optional steel mounting screws. Gain Amplified Photodetectors [ APD / PMT Replacement ] Measurements of optical power at picowatt to femtowatt levels in diverse fields such as defect-scatter detection, spectroscopy, and astrophysics requires sensitive high-responsivity photodiodes combined with ultra-low noise, and high-gain amplification techniques. Our detection systems are ideal replacements for Avalanche Photodetectors [APDs] and Photomultiplier Tubes [PMTs], which are typically utilized in industry, and which are susceptible to saturation, long-recovery time constants, noise, and damage. They also require high voltages for operation and pose significant health hazards. The benefits of our systems include zero recovery time, freedom from saturation effects, wide bandwidth, low NEP, low voltage operation, and laboratory safety. They feature a wide selection of ultra-low noise high-speed photodiodes with large photosensitive areas, broad spectral response, and high responsivity with coated optical windows for free-space and fiber coupling. The amplifiers are selected for low noise and linear response over the operating bandwidth. Three gain settings are available for each spectral range: 0.1, 1, and 10 GV. The output impedance is 50-Ω (low) at the SMA output connector but is also compatibe with high impedance systems. These units require low input capacitance (~ 1pF) instrumentation and test equipment for optimal operation. The bias voltage is fixed / regulated-adjustable (optional) over the working range of the photodiode. They are packaged in small plastic modules for convenient operation. An M8x3 power entry cable is provided, and a power switch with LED “ON” indication are optional. SMA-BNC adapters are optional. Metric and/or SAE mounting holes are provided with recommended-optional steel mounting screws.
